Jon Favreau hasn't played Happy Hogan in a Marvel movie since Iron Man 3,Watch Operation Condor Online but that's all about to change, as he has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Mashablehas confirmed.

Sony and Marvel invited Mashableto visit the Spider-Manset in mid-August, but with the film not slated to swing into theaters until next July, it's too early to reveal the context of Happy's appearance.

Varietybroke the news of Favreau's return as Happy, whom Iron Manfans will remember as Tony Stark's personal driver.

Jon Watts (Cop Car) is directing Homecoming, which stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. They'll find themselves threatened by Michael Keaton as the Vulture, Michael Chernus as the Tinkerer and Bokeem Woodbine as the Shocker.

Marvel's Kevin Feige and former Sony chief Amy Pascal are producing the comic book movie, which was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who drew upon the classic John Hughes high school movies that helped define the '80s. Beyond that, plot details remain under lock and key at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta.

Favreau most recently directed The Jungle Bookfor Disney, which has grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide. He's currently developing a sequel and will soon unveil a virtual reality project titled Gnomes and Goblins. Favreau is represented by CAA.
